A perfect pattern for first-time sock knitters that want to learn the shape of a sock and finish a pair of socks! Yay, accomplishment!

Piped mimics the stacks of keyboards on an organ for much of the sock, culminating in a staggered aesthetic of “pipes” at the top. Created entirely with knit and purl stitches for a stretch, forgiving fit for your first sock, this is an easy beginner knit sock pattern that teaches sock basics that ascribe to the following sock philosophy to usher in a new era in your knitting - socks!

This pattern has been tested primarily by beginner sock knitters with a comfort using the magic loop technique, but have never made socks before. Experienced knitters are invited to substitute in different toe and heel construction for ease and comfort.

Pattern is fully written and charted with encouraging educational asides to help you through your first sock knitting experience and build confidence for your next sock project.

Sizing

This sock is rather stretchy, and wears with about 1” of negative ease.

Pattern includes instructions for:

• xx-small (52 stitches, 6.5” around your foot)
• x-small (56 stitches, 7” around your foot)
• small (60 stitches, 7.5” around your foot)
• medium (64 stitches, 8” around your foot)
• large (68 stitches, 8.5” around your foot)
• x-large (72 stitches, 9” around your foot)

Supplies

• 275-425 yards of fingering weight yarn, split in two. For a contrast heel/toe, this is divided as follows:

Main color: 250-375 yards, split in two
Contrast color: 25-75 yards for a contrast heel/toe, split in two

• Tapestry needle
• Two lengths of waste yarn (preferably light fingering or fingering to maintain stitch size) in a contrasting color to the main yarn
• US size 1 circular needles with a cable of 37” or longer, or whatever needles are necessary to obtain gauge
• A few locking stitch markers

This pattern utilizes the following techniques:

• Judy’s Magic Cast-On
• Magic loop
• Knitting two at the same time on a magic loop (I’ll explain how to position each sock on the needles in the pattern)

• Kitchener stitch/grafting
• Knitting with waste yarn
• Picking up stitches
