Piper the Opossum
Please note that this is a digital PDF download of a crochet pattern, NOT a finished toy!
While walking on two legs seemed to be a great achievement for opossum-kind, it presented some interesting challenges for childcare! Once Piper’s babies outgrew their pouch, they quickly discovered that traditional back-riding was far too dangerous at that angle… Then, Piper had a brilliant idea while collecting eggs one day. It turned out that the babies fit perfectly into the egg apron! Now if only they would agree to stay in there… (#parentproblems)

This 17-page crochet pattern contains all of the instructions and photos you will need in order to create your own adult opossum, baby opossums, and apron. There is also an additional 9-page printer-friendly version of the pattern included. The body and legs are all crocheted as one piece to minimize sewing where possible. This pattern has been thoroughly tested and proofread to be easy to follow. You are welcome to sell finished objects made from this pattern.

The recommended yarn/hook combo will result in a project ~9 in/23 cm tall. However, feel free to use your preferred yarn/hook combo. Using a thicker yarn will result in a larger finished project. Basic crochet techniques and stitches (magic ring, single crochet, slip stitch, chain, increase, invisible decrease, double crochet, and working into front/back-loop stitches) are used in this pattern. Instructions are provided for face shaping, the invisible finish/color change, creating a chain loop, and using wire to make a poseable tail.
