This unisex cowl is knitted in the round on a circular needle. Be sure to check that your stitches are not twisted before joining your cast on stitches.

The 7 round pattern is easily memorised and grows really quickly.

Alternatively you can of course knit the pattern flat and then seam the row ends to make the cowl shape if you prefer - however remember then to just use knit rows to create garter stitch as the pattern is a garter drop stitch.
