This is a fairly easy pattern to make once you have the hang of making color changes and working in the back and front loops. Probably the only real difficult part will be sewing down the curvy fins.Instructions for color changing are included in the pattern. I would rate it as being between an adventurous beginner pattern and an intermediate pattern.

The fish I used for inspiration was mostly Betta fish, so if you’re here for a simple betta fish pattern, you can just omit the pisces symbol and the embroidery thread from the materials!

Your finished project should measure about 5 inches long, 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide.

Materials needed:

  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn (cream and blue). I used Caron Simply Soft in Off-white (25 yards) and Blue Mint (30 yards).
  • DMC #3846 embroidery floss (1 foot)
  • Size G crochet hook, 4.00mm
  • 2 8mm black safety eyes
  • Yarn or Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors
  • Polyfil stuffing

Stitches/techniques used in this pattern:

  • Magic ring
  • Chain stitch
  • Single crochet
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • Slip stitch
  • Color changing
  • Working in the front and back loops
  • Weaving in ends

I cannot guarantee results when using materials other than what is listed above.

If you have trouble with the pattern instructions, please feel free to email me on the email listed in the pattern at the end, or send me a message here on Ravelry. I am always available for troubleshooting problems, and love to hear feedback!
