Pixiu is a Chinese mythical auspicious, winged animals. Pixiu have a reputation of being fierce creatures.
There are two types of Pixiu. The female of the species wards off evil. The large fangs visible in the mouth are used to attack demons and evil spirits and to guard against disease caused by these evil spirits.
The male of the species is in charge of wealth. It is said to go out into the world to search for gold and other forms of wealth. Pixiu have always been regarded as auspicious creatures that possessed mystical powers capable of drawing wealth from all directions.

You require two colors of yarn. For example, blue (the background) and white (Pixiu).
Terminology: all crochet terms used are U.S.
Technique:

• Overlay mosaic crochet full width bottom up
• Overlay mosaic crochet main panel bottom up and envelope border in the round
• Interlocking filet crochet full width bottom up.

Below are two yardage options for sports and fingering yarn.

Yarn: for example, Scheepjes Stone Washed
Yarn weight: Sport. Ball weight: 50 g, yarn length:130 m (142.17 yds).
Gauge: 10 stitches in 5cm (2”) by 5 rows in 5cm (2”) in dc stitch pattern.
Using a different gauge won’t affect the design, but it will change the finish size and the amount of yarn needed.
Hook 3.25 – 3.5 mm. Hook size needed to match the gauge.
Yardage approx. 2800 m of white, 2900 m of blue. (3062 yds of white, 3171 yds of blue)
Size: 150 by 146 cm (150 by 146 filet windows, 59 by 57½ inches).

Yarn: for example, Scheepjes Whirl, Whirlette
Yarn weight: Fingering. Ball weight: 215 g, yarn length:1000 m (1093.61 yds) or ball weight: 100 g, yarn length: 455 m.
Gauge: 13 stitches in 5cm (2”) by 7 rows in 5cm (2”) in dc stitch pattern.

Hook 2.5 mm. Hook size needed to match the gauge.
