You will need two contrasting colors to create the plaid design. I just used scraps to make mine. It doesn’t take much yarn to make one.

These felted coasters were my gauge swatches for my 2010 Ravelympics plaid messenger bag. the ladies at Yarn (the store), told me they were just the right size for coasters. The lightbulb lit above my head, and voila!
