Plaidaptation
Aunt Ninny has fallen hard for plaid, that venerable old tartan long favored by Scots and old-money matriarchs. While paisley, plaid’s ugly stepsister, languishes in some evolutionary backwater, plaid proves its fitness again and again. It deserves to survive. In fact, you just can’t kill it.
Enter Plaidaptation—the poncho that rescues plaid from extinction. Aunt Ninny, who is something of a dinosaur herself, excavated this fashion fossil, adapted it like mad, and drove it into the 21st Century. Your ancestors may have rocked tamer versions, but modern Homo sapiens find bright butterfly colors in bold stripes more to their liking.
This version is simpler than a true plaid: the vertical stripes are crocheted into grooves made by purling a line of stitches. Two easy rectangles fasten front and back—with or without buttons. Offered in two sizes, S/M and L/XL. Pattern calls for 2 (3) skeins MC, 1 skein CC1, and 1 skein CC2.
It’s such a pretty, practical plaid piece (and sooo evolutionary). A natural selection. Darwin would be proud.
