Plaids & Posies Hat & Mitts
This is your Spring bucket hat – and mitts to match! The temperatures are changing but Spring is slow to come here in the North Country. Chilly temps in morning and evening with sunny warmth at lunchtime – you need a versatile set of handknits to keep you going all day.
Sport or DK weight yarn is best for this hat, but you may be able to get gauge with a light worsted. 100g of each color will easily make both hat and mitts.
Hat circumference = 20-21”
Mitt circumference = 7 1/2 - 8”
Gauge:
US 6 needles: 21 st & 24 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch.
Materials:
Hat Yarn: +/- 55 g (darker – Color A) and +/- 45 g (lighter – Color B) of DK weight yarn in contrasting colors of your choosing.
Mitts Yarn: +/- 40 g (darker – Color A) and +/- 25 g (lighter – Color B) of DK weight yarn in contrasting colors of your choosing.
You will also need these materials:
• US 6 needles (16” circular and double-pointed needles to finish the top of the hat, or whatever method you prefer for small circumference knitting). Either US 6 DPN for mitts (or US 6 in a 32” circular for magic-loop knitters)
• Stitch markers: 1 to mark beginning of round and at least 1 other for thumb gusset, others as desired to separate pattern repeats.
• A tapestry needle to weave in ends.
