Welcome to my Net Ornament Cover Variations Series! This first pattern gives direction for the net cover all the other variations are based on. Since it’s such a simple pattern, I’ve included directions on how to make a beaded version too!

This cover takes about 15 yds of size 10 crochet thread, and a little more if you want to add a tassel. I have used a smaller hook than normal for size 10 thread because I want the chain stitches to stay tight. However, if you prefer to use a slightly larger hook it won’t make much difference. The pattern is designed for standard size ball ornaments in the USA which are slightly larger than 2.5” in diameter, or about 8.5” around the widest part. I strongly recommend using plastic ornaments, since blown glass balls can break under the crochet.

This cover takes about 20 minutes to make, so you can whip them up for gifts or add them to your own tree!
