Plain Old Scarf
Pattern description: “This is the second project I recommend for beginning knitters. It’s like a gigantic bookmark. You cast on, knit for quite a while, and then bind off. By the time you’re done, you’ll be aching to move on to the purl stitch. Plus you’ll have a warm and wonderful scarf to sport around town. I’ve included instructions for using two colors, as it’s fun to watch the scarf grow stripe by stripe, but feel free to stick to one color on your first scarf. Cast on more stitches for a wider scarf, fewer for a narrower one.”
Pattern calls for four 50g (1.76 ounce) balls of worsted-weight yarn.
