This sock is inspired by a simple braided (or plaited, depending on where you are in the world) hairstyle.

Like a plait, this pattern is simple, traditional, tidy, and always in style. The difference between this sock and hair, however, is that this plait is much easier than plaiting hair. If you’ve ever had to plait a child’s hair, you’ll understand what I mean.

This design features a plait on the centre front of the leg and foot as well as a plait on the centre back of the leg. The plaits are worked after most of the sock is complete. The plait looks really impressive but is actually the simplest part of the sock. A link to a video demonstration is included in the pattern.

Instructions are included for 5 circumferences and the foot length is customizable. The pattern is needle neutral so you can use whichever method of working in the round that you prefer. This pattern has been tech edited by the talented Sue-Cat and test knit by some of the best test knitters in the world.
