Plaits
Brioche lends itself so well to the twists of braids and plaits, that I had to make a singular braided scarf in brioche. But then I thought, why not a shawl with the braids all lined up like sisters? How about a throw blanket? It would be a scrumptious, indulgent, squishy throw blanket. Luxuriously warm and a little weighty. Perfect for cold winter nights snuggled on the couch. All you have to change from scarf to shawl to throw is the number of repeats, making this a three-in-one kind of pattern. But rather than separate out all of the instructions into three different patterns, I included them all.
The cast-on I prefer uses a needle one size bigger than your gauge needle. I prefer this so the CO doesn’t end up too tight or too loose. Also, please note gauge is not critical, but if your gauge differs from mine, you will use a different amount of yarn and may need more or fewer repeats to reach your desired length.
When knitting brioche, I prefer the roundness of a sock yarn rather than a textured yarn, and two yarns with a high amount of contrast between them looks best.
For the scarf, you will need one 100g skein of each color. (You can get away with 50g skeins if you don’t mind it being a little shorter.) The shawl requires four 100g skeins of each color. And the throw takes eight of each.
This pattern has been tested.
