This pattern requires multiple skeins of yarn, and since hand-dyed yarn varies—even from the same dye pan—it is recommended to alternate skeins every two rows to avoid visible lines in the fabric; for more on doing this and creating a smooth, stretchy edge, see the SDK blog post Alternating Hand-Dyed Skeins for a Smooth Edge.
The Plant Lady Shawl is worked bottom-up with decreases at the center and edges to shape the triangle, finishing with a reverse garter ridge tab at the top edge; written instructions are on page 6, with a photo and video tutorial on the SDK Blog.
The Plant Lady Shawl is an elegant take on the lace pattern created for the Plant Lady Cowl. This lace pattern was inspired by the healing herbs who grow just outside our front door. Check out the Plant Lady Cowl here.
The Plant Lad Shawl
Every summer, we walk among healing herbs—plantain, clover, lemon balm, and dandelion—welcomed by the earth beneath our feet. We stir herbs into soup, sing of parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme, and dry wildflowers to brighten our days. We steep leaves into tea for strength, finding magic in the ordinary and wisdom in what others call weeds. The Plant Lady Shawl honors the Plant Lady within us all, a reminder that when we nurture our plant kin, they, in turn, nurture us.
