Platypus cosy
The platypus is one of the weirdest creatures in the world. It has a duck-like bill, but also a beaver-like tail. It swims underwater, but it’s covered in fur. It lays eggs but is a mammal - and it is venomous like a snake! The perplexing platypus really is a mash up of an assortment of animals, all rolled into one cute and captivating critter!
This knitted platypus is multifunctional too: it is both a cuddly toy and a comfy cosy, combined in one adorable animal! It is guaranteed to keep you company and keep you warm during the gloomy and glacial winter times!
This 53 centimeter-platypus was made with mottled yarns to add to the life-likeness of the platypus’ fur and features, done in Lang Alice (068) chocolate and Lang Celine (094) cream, Rowan Felted Tweed (211) black and (159) carbon, on 4 mm single pointed needles size (US 6, UK 8). But it can be made in any gauge yarn!
The cosy can be used for both a 1- and 2-liter hot water bottle. Although it might be a little tight at the first use with the big bottle, it will stretch a little each time you fill the bottle and fit snugly after a few applications.
This project is an easy knit, with some knitting in the round and intarsia color work.
Have a cosy winter! Viv
