Play outfit for 14" - 15" Soft Body Baby Doll
This pattern is designed for a 14”-15” soft bodied baby doll such as the American Girl Bitty Baby®, Corolle Mon Bebe Classique®, Baby Stella®, or 14” Madame Alexander®. If knitting for Madame Alexander® you will want to take a few stitches out of the headband or hat if the outfit has a headband or hat. Outfits for hoodies will be fine. If you are knitting for Baby Stella® you will either need to cuff the sleeves (which looks good on some outfits) or take an inch out of the sleeves; the arms are quite a bit shorter than the other dolls. You can also make the torso on any pants a bit shorter - 2 1/2-3 inches instead of 3 1/2 inches if you wish although the 3 1/2 inch fits, it just comes up very high on the waist.
This design is done with straight size 3 and 5 needles. The only place I use size 3 to cast on, as I believe it gives a cleaner edge, and for the ribbing at the waistband of the pants. I used stash yarn and two different brands for this, so my gauge is an estimate based on other projects.
The top is knitted in one piece, starting at the bottom front and ending at the bottom back. Sleeves are added by casting on to the piece and then casting off. The only seams are the side seam and the seam to attach the hood. The pants are worked from the bottom up; the legs are made first, and then joined into one piece for the torso. The waistband is ribbing with smaller needles, so there is no need for elastic. The hood is worked in one piece and has a seam down the back. Since you are changing colors on the pants and beanie every 4 rows, just carry the yarn and don’t break it at each change.
