Playing Pool is a boomerang-shaped shawl. The shaping in the edge result in a ‘bent’ triangle. The stitch patterns are simple: garter stitch and seed stitch. The interest comes from the use of variegated yarn that has a relatively long color repeat cycle, from 30 inches to 60 inches per repeat. As you work the colors in the variegated yarn will randomly pool to form spots or stripes. Because the length of the rows is increasing every other row, the randomness of the pooling is increased. You never know just what you will get; that’s the fun. This pattern could be worked in all solid or tonal yarns but the fun would not be the same.

Materials:
One skein of solid or tonal colored fingering yarn. Three skeins of variegated fingering yarn with a color change cycle of 30 to 60 inches. It will require about 240 yards of each of the four skeins

US 6 / 4.00 mm 32” circular needle. Tapestry needle.

Gauge: 20 sts / 4 in. (10 cm)

Measurements: 72 in. (1.8 m) x 20 in. (0.5 m)

Skill level: Beginner. Uses Seed stitch and garter stitch Picot cast off.
