Plum Trees and Bees shawl
IMPORTANT: This pattern is available for free on my blog, but if you rather work from paper or if you want to support me as a designer, I have also made a ready-to-print PDF available for a small fee. This also comes in a printerfriendly version without pictures. The PDF version is available through here on Ravelry or on Etsy.
The Inspiration
Since Scheepjes released their new Whirligig yarn in the color ‘Plum to ochre’ I was inspired by the color and the name to make a new design inspired by bees. It is no secret I absolutely love bees and it has been a while since I designed something bee-inspired. The shawl is inspired by the thought about walking in the sun through big plum orchards where the bees would buzz overhead in the white plum blossom clouds.
The pattern is also part of my Poetry Collection, so it is accompanied by a poem or text to hopefully let you immerse yourself in the pattern.
This pattern consists of
- Written instructions (US terms) accompanied by photo’s where needed
- A chart
- The pattern is available for free on my blog, but if you’d rather work from a PDF, I have also made that option available for a small fee.
Used Techniques
Standard stitches (US terms): slip stitch, chains, single crochet, double crochet.
Special stitches: S-Puff, M-Puff and L-puff
Special techniques: Working puff stitches (explained with text and pictures).
Yarn & sizes
The shawl is made with one cake of Scheepjes Whirligig (1000m/450g) which is a DK weight wool/alpaca blend. The shawl will be 167cm/66.8” wide and 76cm/30.4” deep after blocking. There was yarn leftover though, so it could be made a bit bigger.
The pattern was tested in English. The Dutch version was not tested, so little typos may occur. Please contact me via email if you have found a mistake, or if you need help with the pattern.
