The center of this kerchief features a textural chevron pattern using knit and purl stitches to resemble a grouping of “feathers”. Use of the chain cast-on method creates a beautifully finished edge, a technique you will return to again. The kerchief is just a small scale shawl, making it a quick knit and a versatile accessory. Knit with cotton yarn and loosely tied, it is a fun accessory in warmer weather. Knit with wool yarn and worn close around the neck as a cowl, it provides warmth without bulk. Enjoy!

Skill level:
Advanced beginner or intermediate - pattern involves reading charts. The stitch pattern is pretty simple so once you get going you may only need to refer to the charts on wrong side rows.

Knitting stitches used:
knit stitch, purl stitch, yarn-overs, cast-on, bind-off

Materials needed:
US 3 (3.25 mm) circular knitting needles, 24” long or longer
Size D crochet hook or same size as the needles you will using (one or two sizes larger will also work)
