Plume Bonnet
17/09/18 - Pattern updated to correct crown shaping instructions and add flat crown shaping.
This delicate, vintage-style bonnet is a perfect addition to any child’s wardrobe. The name comes from the plume-like lace detail. This bonnet knits up very quickly, with minimal finishing, and would make a perfect last-minute gift.
The main section of the bonnet is worked flat before joining in the round to work the crown shaping. The simple, easy to memorise pattern is worked over multiples of 9 stitches. The ties are simple crochet chains of doubled yarn.
You will need 4mm circular needles - or a set of straight needles for the main section, and DPNs for the crown, if desired - a needle for sewing in ends, and a 3.5-4.5mm crochet hook for the crocheted ties.
Sizes: 0-3m, 3-9m, 9-24m & 2-5 years
Yarn: Superfine Merino by Cleckheaton (or any 8ply/DK merino)
This pattern uses between approximately 22 and 42g of yarn - perfect for using up leftovers!
Gauge: 22sts and 30 rows to 10cm in stocking stitch.
