Plumule Cardigan
Do you like cardigans? Do you like big pockets? Perhaps, you even like seed stitch! The Plumule cardigan is an easy addition to any wardrobe. It’s convenient to throw on over just about anything as a house coat, with the bracelet length sleeves making it particularly practical for chore days. The careful shoulder shaping on both the back and the front of the cardigan ensures it won’t slip off your shoulders.
Construction:
Knit top down, with shoulder short row shaping, a contiguous neckband, short row sleeve caps, bracelet length sleeves, and DEEP pockets! Pattern includes many photos and video links to help with the pocket construction. The only sewing involved is tacking down the sides of the pockets, which is done before knitting is completed.
Yarn:
1021, 1125, 1233, (1341, 1442, 1581) {1714, 1849, 1959} yards / 932, 1028, 1126, (1225, 1317, 1444), {1565, 1689, 1789} meters of a plump DK, or light worsted will suit nicely.
Sample is knit with Explorer Knits + Fibers Cash DK in ‘Fiadh’
A few testers used Cascade 220 Superwash with great success.
Needles:
(Larger) US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge after blocking.
(Smaller) US 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles for the seed stitch hem and cuffs, or 2 sizes smaller than needles needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge:
18.5 sts and 26 rows in 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette flat with (Larger) needles. Note that while the majority of the cardigan is knit flat, the sleeves are knit in the round. It is not uncommon to knit tighter in small circumferences than flat, so you may need to go up a needle size for the sleeves to maintain gauge.
Sizing:
Finished bust measurements range from 35.25” to 66.75” / 88 cm to 167 cm. Meant to be worn with 5” / 12.5 cm of positive ease at the bust. I also recommend choosing a size based on your cross shoulder measurement. See schematic and size chart in photos.
As with all my garment patterns, you can use the code ANTIFATTAX at checkout to get 20% off the pattern price, to assist in combating the extra cost fat makers face. Meant for sizes 6-9.
Pattern includes instructions for how to modify bicep circumference. Length is easily added to the body of the cardigan after the pockets. Length is also easily added to the sleeves, as all the shaping is already in the right place.
Difficulty: Intermediate
