Plush Country Chicken
This plump chicken is so cute and snuggly! She works up quickly and is low sew. This is a good pattern for beginners with knowledge of basic stitches who are looking to start crocheting plushies or amigurumi. This pattern is written using Standard US crochet terms.
Skill level: Beginner
Finished size: Approx 8 in. long, 7 in. tall from base to comb.
Materials needed:
5.5 mm crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Polyfill
8 mm safety eyes
Super bulky (6) yarn. Loops and Threads Chenille Home Slim (less than a skein, approx. 80g) in White; black and white tweed; or taupe tweed
Red chenille slim or lite, about 2 yards
Scrap of yellow yarn, preferably chenille or blanket but worsted weight works.
Stitches and Abbreviations (US):
R: Round
Ch: Chain
st(s): stitches
Sc: Single crochet
Sl st: Slip stitch
Inc: Increase (working 2 sc into one stitch)
Dec: Decrease (I use invisible decrease-pick up front loops of next 2 sts, yarn over and pull through both loops, yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.)
Dc: Double crochet
Hdc: Half double crochet
( ) x # : Repeat stitches within parentheses however many times it specifies. ex: (sc, inc) x8 would mean repeating: sc in one stitch and 2 sc in the next stitch, 8 times.
