Styling

A classic raglan jacket, airy and lightweight yet very cosy, with a nice drape. For girls, make it as shown by using the included lace tutorial to create an open lacework design. This produces a wearable artwork with lovely organic motifs that seem to meander over the garment. For boys, make the plain jacket without lace.

Note. Alteration instructions allow the pattern to be easily adjusted to suit the maker’s personal gauge.

Construction

Worked from the top downwards without seams in an easy mesh stitch. The shawl collar is shaped for a good fit, and is integrated with the body of the jacket. Straight body profile with optional waist shaping, sloped shoulders, tapered raglan sleeves, adjustable hem length.

Features

The optional lace motifs are easy to incorporate, and the technique is clearly explained. Templates for the jacket’s front, back and sleeve are provided so that a lace design can be planned beforehand. Or the motifs can be incorporated ‘on the fly’ for a random effect.

Actual bust

Age 6 mths = 48.5 cm = 19 in
Age 12 mths = 51 cm = 20 in

Ag 6 yrs = 64 cm = 25 in

Positive ease

For ages 6 mths to 18 mths = 5 cm or 2 in (add to ‘actual bust’)

For ages 2 to 12 yrs = 10 cm or 4 in (add to ‘actual bust’)

Note

The little girl in the pictures is age 4 but is wearing the jacket for age 6, giving her room to grow. If an intermediate size is desired, this is easily achieved by altering the number of rows in the yolk by 1 or 2.
