I designed this pattern mainly for knitting instructors who are looking for something new and fun for their beginning knitters to make. Kids especially need something that attracts and holds their attention. Making a wash cloth or hot pad isn’t that exciting if your 8 or 10 or 12.

When I saw Cat Bordhi’s Tendrils video, I knew I needed to come up with a pattern that used them.

So far my students have loved knitting their pocket-purses and adding the tendrils. They have a finished project that they can show off to their friends.

It’s perfect for the kids who have cell phones, too.

We added a sew-on magnetic clasp to keep Vivie’s valuables safe inside!

For the tendrils and bind off we used a few yards of another color of yarn, optional but so cute!

I listed gauge but remember this is for beginnng knitters so it’s totally irrelevant. And if their project isn’t exactly a square or rectangle don’t worry, you can fudge the edges in the seams.
