Pocket weasel
Crochet pattern for a realistic, life-sized weasel amigurumi, as well as the modifications to turn it into a stoat or an ermine.
Size
15cm/6” from worsted weight, 13cm/5 ¼” from DK weight (not including tail) - roughly the size of the smallest subspecies of least weasel.
Tools and materials:
- DK or worsted weight yarn in brown, white, and black
- 3mm/C hook if using DK weight yarn, 3.5mm/E for worsted (or size needed to obtain a tight, no-gaps fabric)
- 4.5mm (for DK)/5mm (for worsted) black plastic eyes
- fiberfill stuffing
- stitch markers, pair of scissors, pair of tweezers, pins, yarn needle
- sewing thread and needle, or glue, to attach the eyes
Difficulty
This pattern is suitable for intermediate to advanced level crocheters, who are confident with basic stitches (ch, sl st, sc) and frequently used amigurumi techniques (invisible decrease, magic loop).
The head, neck and body are crocheted in one piece. All shaping is created without turned rows or tall stitches, so nothing breaks the smooth single crochet surface. And as additional bonus, the construction method allows to make the contrast color belly without actual color changes - the only time you will need to change colors in the round is for the black tail tip, if making a stoat or an ermine.
The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology (UK/Aus equivalents provided). It contains many in-progress photos to help you crochet your weasel/stoat/ermine, but also includes a text-only appendix for easy printing, if you prefer working from a printed pattern but want to save ink and paper.
Finished amigurumi made from this pattern are yours to keep or gift or sell, I only ask you to credit me as the designer in case you decide to sell them.
