These socks are a celebration of texture inspired by banksias, one of the most weird and wonderful families of Australian plants. But it’s not the flowers that are the centre of attention on these beauties - it’s what the hordes of birds, bees, and cheeky ringtail possums leave behind.

This toe up sock features a pattern that cleverly uses simple lace and the occasional cable to bring the puckered, irregular shape of banksia seed pods to life. Worked over just 16 stitches, the two strings of pods make a big impact in any colour. The simplicity of the chart makes it a great pattern for the beginner lace/cable knitter, and this pattern is also perfect for anyone seeking something slightly more engaging than a vanilla sock while still being mindless enough to make for great TV/car knitting.

Yarn
This design calls for fingering weight yarn. I recommend superwash or tightly plied yarns with good stitch definition.

Sample uses Wren and Ollie’s Purist Yarn in Ochre 03.
