Pohlenna
When I was a child, my Ukrainian Baba made a tea from a plant we called Pohlena (phonetic spelling) She would apply it to rashes caused by allergies, and it took the itch and pain away immediately. Within 2 days the rash would be gone. She let me taste it, and it was the most bitter thing I’ve ever had in my mouth! Years later, I discovered the English name is Wormwood.
When I swatched up this stitch, it’s appearance immediately reminded me of Pohlena and my Baba.
A pretty lace stitch adapted from a traditional Estonian stitch, and a special corrugated stitch on the heel flap make for a fun knit!
Sample is knit in 2 colours, with contrasting top rib, heel and toe. This required 50grm of each colour. Knit it all in one colour with 100 gr of fingering yarn.
