This little flower is made of a small amount of crocheted yarn (about 1 g each of 2 colours if you use DK weight yarn) plus lots of little scraps of yarn for the flower “petals” and stuffing. It is really quick to work up and the trickiest part is trying to stuff your yarn tails into the stem of your flower. It is inspired by the pōhutukawa flower but also looks slightly like a feijoa flower or a rata flower - all three flowers have little red petals that look a little like the strands of scrap yarn. I’ve made this with both DK weight yarn (with 2.75 mm hook) and crochet cotton (Milford Soft 3 ply crochet cotton and a 1.5 mm hook) but you can use any size hook and yarn you wish. I’ve added googly eyes to a few of the finished flowers because they looked like they would suit them. Of course, you can also use whatever colours you have on hand. I have made some with brown, yellow and lime and others with green, brown and lime.

Note: the exact length was measured to the top of the “petals”, therefore the length will vary depending on how long your petals are. The smaller, crochet thread version was not much shorter due to the length of the yarn tails used to create the petals {~8 cm (3”) tall and ~4 cm (1 ½“) wide}
