SKILL LEVEL:
Adventurous Beginner - This pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include simple lace stitches and basic seaming.
Notes from the Designer:
Crocheted in two identical pieces pattern-wise, this airy top is accented with a simple, lace stitch yoke. Switch things up by swapping the colors on one piece, and you can change the direction you wear it for a different look. Customize it even further in the assembly: begin the side seams a couple of inches above the hemline to create side vents, or stitch the front and back pieces together from the very edge for a solid bottom border. Seam the shoulders from the neckline to the outer edge, or create peek-a-boo vents by stitching together just an inch or two at the neckline and outer edge, leaving the rest of the top edge open.
- Click here to watch a video tutorial on how to crochet the body stitch pattern and the yoke stitch pattern.
- This sample (size S) used approximately 876 yds total (438 yds Color A, 438 yds Color B) / 801 m total (400.5 m Color A, 400.5 m Color B).
- If you opt to make the front and back panels without reversing colors as shown, you may need to purchase an additional skein of your body color to ensure adequate yardage.
- Gauge is crucial in this pattern to ensure fit. Note that the unblocked stitch gauge is different from the blocked stitch gauge.
- Because the pattern stitch in the body is stretchier than the pattern stitch in the yoke, go up in hook size for the yoke to ensure you maintain the same width throughout the front and back pieces.
- To increase the overall length, work additional rows of the body section. The body and yoke should meet approximately 1 inch above the bustline. Increasing the length will increase the yardage requirements.
