Pointy Leaf or Kite or Tree
Simple and quick to knit in less than an hour, this shape is versatile! It could also look like armor spikes or lizard scales. In a larger size, the shape can be an afghan block. Typical mitered square/domino knitting is garter stitch with a double decrease in the center of every other row. This pattern has a double decrease in every row.
The 37-stitch kite is 1.75 inches wide and 2.5 inches long at gauge. The leaf measured without stem and tree both are 2.25” wide and 3” long at gauge. Leaf was blocked into a pointy-er shape and knit with Aunt Lydia’s Classic #10 crochet cotton “frosty green”. Kite is DMC color #4122. Tree is DMC color #904 and #434. White 2mm seed beads were used on the tree.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, k3tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Optional: I-cord for leaf stem
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any yarn/thread will work.
7 yards of #5 pearl cotton or #10 crochet cotton thread will make one 37-stitch-cast-on shape at gauge.
10 yards of #5 pearl cotton or #10 crochet cotton thread will make one 47-stitch-cast-on shape at gauge.
One 27-yard skein of DMC #5 pearl cotton will make 3 of the smaller or 2 of the bigger shapes.
