The first of Disney’s infamous feature film villains, the Queen from 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is undeniably wicked, possessing a malicious heart and deep vanity. Jealous of her stepdaughter Snow White’s fair beauty, red-rose lips, ebony hair, and sweet disposition, the Queen plots the princess’s death with a poison apple, which will send her into a Sleeping Death. Walt Disney drew inspiration from the Big Bad Wolf from Three Little Pigs and Lady Macbeth for the villain, describing her as “a high collar stately beautiful type” whose “beauty is sinister, mature—she becomes ugly and menacing when scheming.” Ironically, the evil, beautiful queen meets her demise as an ugly crone.

Tempt your friends with this elegant pullover featuring a ring of poison apples around the yoke. With the beginning of the round starting at the center back, this pullover is worked in the round from the top down, making it easy to adjust the length. A classic ribbed neckline flows into wrap-and-turn short row shaping to raise up the back neck, then a stranded colorwork yoke grows outward with M1L increases and poison apple motifs. Sleeve stitches are placed on waste yarn, then a simple stockinette body is knit, ending in colorwork stars and a ribbed hem. The sleeves are then picked up and worked in the round, finishing off with colorwork and ribbed cuffs to match. Put it on and you’ll be the fairest one of all!
