THIS PATTERN INCLUDES SEPARATE INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOTH A SPORT WEIGHT AND WORSTED WEIGHT VERSION. Choose whichever works for you and your stash!

The worsted weight version incorporates 3 repeats of the leaves motif, and the sport weight version incorporates 5 repeats of the same leaves motif.

Gauge for Sport version:
24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inch square in stockinette stitch on size 4 needles

Yarn used for Worsted weight sample:
Manos del Uruguay Maxima in Eucalyptus
Gauge for Worsted version:
16 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inch square in stockinette stitch on size 9 needles

NOTE - While you are working the leaves motif, the number of stitches in each round WILL vary. The embossed nature of the knit and purl stitches in the pattern will account for this variation, and the diameter of the hat body will stay even.

Finished hat has a looser slouchy fit. If you prefer a more snug hat, you might try knitting the sport version with a fingering weight yarn, or the worsted version with a heavy DK.
