Pokey Toque is a sassy hat for the prickliest among us. I designed it after I moved to Minnesota and realized I needed some adorable little cactuses to cheer me up during the very long winters.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Brim circumference: 15 to 24 inches (38 - 61
cm), yes it really is that stretchy!
Brim to tip of crown: 8.5 inches (22 cm)
YARN
Any fingering weight yarn that allows you to
obtain the correct gauge. Sample is knit in
leftovers of KnitPicks Palette Yarn.
This pattern requires 5 colors:
MC (brim, crown of hat): 155 yds (142 m)
CC1 (cactuses): 20 yds (18 m)
CC2 (pots): 5 yds (4.5 m)
CC3 (cactus background): 23 yds (21 m)
CC4 (cactus flowers): 8 yds (7.5 m)
NEEDLES
US 2 - 2.75 mm
US 3 - 3.25 mm
GAUGE
27 stitches and 34 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in
colorwork
NOTIONS
Yarn
Needles - circular needles or a set of double
pointed needles.
2 stitch markers: one for BOR, one for end of
repeat
Waste yarn for provisional cast on
Crochet hook for provisional cast on
TECHNIQUES
You will need to be able to knit ribbing and
stranded colorwork. Colorwork is charted The
double thick brim requires a provisional cast on
and the ability to pick up cast on stitches. Cactus
flowers are created with duplicate stitch.
