Polar Bear
A Scandinavian style sweater from the 1940s. Written for the US market of the era, the pattern is knit flat in pieces and seamed. Today’s knitters may wish to adapt the pattern for circular knitting.
Calls for 10 ounces of Double Knitting or Worsted Weight yarn for the background, 2 ounces of a contrast color for the main pattern and 1 ounce of a third color for the borders. Yardage not given, approximated here based upon common yardages for yarns of this weight.
This is from a 1946 book with 10 patterns in various sizes from child to adult. Others: #03 Reindeer and Pine Trees, Dancing Girls and Boys, Star Jacket, Diamonds and Flowers, etc.
