CONSTRUCTION

Polar Bear is knit bottom up in the round to the underarm, then divided for front and back to be worked flat. The sleeves are picked up and knit in the round top down. Very basic shaping, suitable for beginners.

DESIGN DETAILS

Texture

The texture effect is created with the use of simple mix of knit and purl stitches in a stripe sequence.

Fiber Contrast

The sweater is knit in two very different fibers - chunky Peruvian wool and light airy mohair. This contrast creates a dramatic visual effect and makes the whole knitting experience more engaging.

But you are free to experiment and change this suggested design feature. You can make the sweater using just one kind of yarn and you will still get the textured look. Or you can use yarns of the same weight for the stripe sequence.

Sleeves

Sleeves are knit in the round top down, in a simple stripe sequence. The length is adjustable.

Neckline

Wide boat neck can be worn as a classic neckline or slipped off one shoulder. The pattern gives instructions how to make the neckline opening narrower, if you wish to.

Sizing

The sweater is graded for 8 sizes with 6-6 ½“ of ease. The sample is shown in size Small with 6”of ease.

Yarn B – 2 (2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3) skeins of “Take Care Mohair” Wool and The Gang (109 yds 100 m in 1.75 oz 50 g; 78% kid mohair, 13% wool, 9% polyamide) in Dusty Grey.
