It was in the middle of the coldest, darkest winter in Finland, the polar night; I was cold and needed
something warm and fluffy to wrap myself in, and I needed it fast!

In the light of one lonely candle, my eyes glanced at these two bulky yarns just lying around, and saw that they were
just what I needed, perfect for a quick shawl! So I took my needles and my yarn in my freezing hands and started knitting. The wool immediately started to warm up my stiff hands. I knitted all night and at the dawn my shawl was finished and I wasn’t that cold anymore, spring was closer.

-The shawl is worked flat, starting from the
ribbed edge section.
-Stitches for the body are picked up from the side
of the ribbed section, and stitches for the loopy
edging from the opposite side of the ribbed
section.
-The shape of the shawl is an isosceles trapezoid,
a rectangle that’s slightly wider at the bottom
than the top.
-The ribbed section adds a bit of a pull to the
lower part for a more hugging effect.
-The size can be altered in both directions by
altering needle size and yarn to change the
gauge.
-In warmer climates substituting wool yarn with
cotton may be a good idea.
