This hat was my first time experimenting with a true lace pattern throughout. Named after the North Star, a deceptively simple lace pattern finished off with an equally simple crown decrease gives the complex impression of a radiant star that shines down from the top to the brim. All you need is one skein of sport weight yarn and you can cast on this project that is attentive for first time lace knitters, or even for the “mindless knitting” expert.

MATERIALS:
• One skein - The Fibre Company: Road to China Light – Grey Pearl (65% Baby Alpaca, 10% Cashmere, 10% Camel and 15% Silk, 159 yds)
• US 6 16” circ needles
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle Measurements taken after blocking

GAUGE AND MEASUREMENTS:

Brim: about 20” in circumference.
Height: 8” from cast on to top of crown

Gauge: About 10 sts and 8 rows in lace pattern.

PATTERN NOTES: Gauge is necessary for the fit, but not for yardage, and I had about 40 yards left in the yarn I used. By adding or subtracting multiples of 10 sts, you can easily adjust the size of the hat, regardless of the yarn weight used.
