Pole Dancer Illusion Knit
It is not often that we accept commissions to create illusion knit designs. This is simply because the price we would charge would have to reflect the large amount of work that goes in to the charting and test knitting involved in the creation of the piece. On average the complex illusion knits that we create take us, in the region of, 100 hours to chart and a further 100 hours to test knit. We will not send out a design that we have not knitted ourselves to ensure that it works in the way we want it to. As a rule we sell the pattern booklets for people to knit the illusion for themselves.
This project was different. We were asked to create this Pole Dancer Illusion by a friend. The dancer in question is the daughter of that friend and she has now agreed that the pattern itself can be included as one of my designs on Ravelry.
The piece is designed to be a bed cover or wall hanging and instructions are including for the piece to be finished in either way.
The third photograph here shows the piece of work when viewed from directly in front.
The piece was knitted using Double Knitting yarn on 3.25mm needles. A different thickness of yarn or size of needle would alter the overall sizes described.
The design for the picture itself requires approximately 300 grams in each of two contrasting colours. The picture measures approximately 34” by 48” (86cm by 120cm). Adding a border to increase the size to about 45” by 60” (114cm by 150cm) will require an extra 200 grams in the colour of your choice.
September 2013 Update
The pattern now includes an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may find it helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!
