Polesden Scarf & Wrap
The Polesden scarf and wrap get their name from Polesden Lacey- one of my favourite places to visit at Christmas time. Polesden Lacey house & estate is now owned by the National Trust but used to be the party house of Lady Greville. At Christmas the house is decorated as it would have been for her guests during the 1930s: lots of pink, plenty of sherry glasses and a tree in every room.
This pattern includes two separate sets of instructions; one that will produce a more delicate scarf and one that will produce a chunkier wrap. Both these options have been designed with yarn Advent calendars in mind, but could equally be knit with mini skeins, yarn leftovers or simply in one colour.
The scarf option is knit in alternating sections of 4 ply yarn and brushed Suri alpaca, each held alone. Should you wish, this option can also be knit using all 4ply or all suri alpaca. Due to its finer gauge this scarf is suited perfectly to wearing out and about, wrapped around your neck and tucked into your favourite winter coat.
The chunkier wrap is knit using 4ply yarn held together with a strand of brushed suri alpaca throughout. This is a wider wrap which works well worn like a shawl out and about or curled up at home by the fire.
This is a very simple pattern suitable for beginners. The design is knit flat but circular needles are recommended as they will make for a more comfortable knitting experience. The lace pattern is a straightforward two row repeat. The scarf/wrap is edged with a three stitch, very simple I-cord edge. There is a chart for the lace, and equivalent written instructions for those who prefer.
