The second pattern in my series inspired by Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files, these squishy warm mitts are inspired by Waldo Butters. Better known in the Dresden-verse simply as Butters, he is smart enough to hold his own with Bob, clever enough to logic his way through incredible obstacles, and brave enough to be a force of nature. With only the occasional need for Harry to re-focus him with his mantra, “Polka will never die.”

These mitts feature an easy-to-memorise texture pattern reminiscent of the folds of Butters’ accordion, without detracting from the self-striping glory of the Knitter’s Nightmare “Necromorph” colourway.

Skills Needed

  • Basic knitting skills: knit, purl, and slipping a stitch.

  • Intermediate knitting skills: make one stitch, picking up live stitches from waste yarn, and 1 x 1 cable crosses.

Like One Woman Rave, this pattern also features amazing original artwork from Margaret Salter.
