As a child, pomegranates were an exotic treat. Pomegranate season falls in the winter in Canada (we now have nearly year round availability), but were still very rare to find in the supermarket in the 80’s, so it was really exciting to get one. Pomegranates were an “outside fruit” in our house (that red juice stains everything), so these snack sessions were an outdoor activity. I loved digging out those pretty little jewels with my cold fingers, eating them one by one or collecting a handful for a big flavor explosion…and the seedy mouthful that followed!

Pomegranate Tam, a fun bobble and lace hat, is an ode to this mysterious and beautiful fruit! Starting from the center crown, the tam is worked from the top-down. A firm ribbing at the band makes for the perfect fit. The lace and bobble motif is given in written and charted format. Worsted weight wool tonal hand dyed yarn such as Manos del Uruguay Maxima make the 3-D pomegranates really pop!

Materials:
One skein Manos Del Uruguay Maxima (218yards/ 100g, 100% merino wool)
OR
200 yards of worsted weight yarn
5mm 16” circular needle and set of 4 double pointed needles or size to obtain gauge
4mm 16” circular needle or one mm smaller than larger needle
Stitch markers
Wool needle

Skills Used: Knitting in the round, working with DPNs, lace knitting, bobbles

Size:
Fits average woman’s head, 20-23 inches/ 51-58 cm

Gauge:
18 sts = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch using larger needle.

Lace and bobble pattern instruction is WRITTEN and CHARTED.
