Ponchetta
Ponchetta is a cropped poncho/capelet, knit seamlessly from the bottom-up and makes a perfect little layering piece. With multiple sizes to pick from, it features an easy yet interesting stitch pattern and straight-forward construction.
It’s suitable for beginners looking to branch out from scarves and cowls and more advanced knitters will enjoy the relaxing nature of this knit.
Piece is knit like a big rectangle, then it’s put together by working the Three Needle Bind-Off to attach the Left Shoulders. Then remaining stitches are worked in the round to create the cowl neck. Tutorials are provided for all the techniques!
PATTERN INFORMATION
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
Note: On older versions of pattern, sizes were labeled as XS (S, M, L, XL, 2X). I’ve updated sizing labels since sizing of this piece can be different than traditional sweaters.
Finished Measurements:
Full Circumference: 49.5 (53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 68.5, 73.5)“/126 (68, 149, 161, 174, 187) cm
Side-to-side width: 24.75 (26.75, 29.25, 31.75, 34.25, 36.75)”/63 (68, 74, 81, 87, 93) cm
Picking a Size:
There are 2 ways you can pick a size, based on either your bust measurement, or your shoulder-to-shoulder measurement. I suggest considering both of these when deciding what size to pick. I encourage you to visit this link to learn additional details about Ponchetta and sizing: https://bit.ly/ponchetta
BASED ON BUST: I suggest picking a size whose finished “Full Circumference” is approx 12-20”/30-51 cm larger than your actual bust circumference, depending on desired fit. Shown in size 1, being worn with 16”/41 cm of positive ease at bust.
BASED ON SHOULDER WIDTH: I suggest picking a size whose finished “Side-to-Side Width” is approx 5-10”/13-25 cm larger than your actual outer shoulder-to-outer shoulder width, depending on desired fit. Shown in size 1, being worn with 6.75”/17 cm of positive ease at shoulder width.
Gauge: 16 sts & 24 rws = 4”/10 cm in St st
Yarn: Approx. 566 (630, 725, 823, 932, 1044) yds of worsted-weight yarn, shown in Simplinatural by Hikoo (40% Merino, 40% Alpaca, 20% Silk; 100g = 183 yds), 3 (4, 4, 5, 5, 6) skeins, shown in colorway First Press Olive.
