Poncho Around Selbu (NL below)

The inspiration for this pattern is the beautiful colour work patterns from the region around Selbu in Norway. These patterns are often used on socks and gloves or mittens but could also be very nice on a poncho. I worked with a variegated yarn that I made myself by tying up ends of yarn with matching colours in a set order. It was a deliberate choice to accentuate the seams of the poncho which accentuates the shape of the poncho. This is also often done in Selbu gloves or socks where also a continuing pattern is present on the sides. To prevent your arms from getting cold there is a matching set of arm warmers. This makes this an ensemble that wears like a comfy sweater. This pattern has no steek so no cutting!

The poncho is one size fits all and the arm warmers are available in the sizes S/M and L/XL.

Necessities:

About 600 grams yarn for Shetland or Norwegian colour work in at least 2 different colours, for knitting needle 2.75 to 3,5 mm,
1 circular knitting needle size 2.75 mm of 120 cm length and a second string of 120 cm with a piece to ty them together.
Crochet needle size 3mm
A small bit of spare yarn in a different colour for a temporary cast on
Wool needle of darning needle to tie-off threads and a sharp pair of scissors
Eucalan or some other wool detergent to clean your knitting

The original is knitted with Holst supersoft wool yarn in the colours:
300 grams Indigo (066) as basic colour

Poncho Rondje Selbu met bijpassende armwarmers.

De inspiratie voor dit patroon zijn de prachtige inbrei patronen uit de regio rondom Selbu in Noorwegen. Deze patronen zie je vaak op sokken en handschoenen of wanten maar kunnen ook heel leuk zijn op een poncho. Ik heb hierbij gewerkt met kleurverloop in de wol die ik zelf heb gecreëerd door bij elkaar passende tinten in elkaar over te laten lopen in een vaste volgorde. Het was een bewuste keuze om de naden van de poncho te accentueren waardoor de vorm van de poncho wordt benadrukt. Dit zie je ook vaak terug in de Selbu handschoenen of sokken waarbij er ook aan de zijkant en doorlopende patroon zichtbaar is waarbij delen worden benadrukt. Om te voorkomen dat je koude arme krijgt zijn er een paar bijpassende arm warmers bij gemaakt, die ervoor zorgen dat het geheel draagt als een lekkere warme wegkruip trui. Dit patroon bevat geen knipbies dus geen knipwerk!

Benodigdheden:

Circa 600 gram wol voor Shetlands- of Noors inbreiwerk in minimaal 2 verschillende kleuren, voor breinaald 2,75 tot 3,5 mm.
1 rondbreinaald maat 2.75 mm met lengte 120 cm en een extra lijn van 120 cm met een koppelstuk.
Een klein restje garen in een afwijkende kleur voor de tijdelijke opzet.
Haaknaald maat 3 mm
Wolnaald of stopnaald om de draden af te hechten en scherpe schaar
Eucalan of een ander wolwasmiddel om je breiwerk te reinigen en opgespannen te kunnen laten drogen.
