Poncho of Frost Lace
For my Poncho of Frost Lace I used Aunt Lydia’s Fashion Crochet thread number THREE (heavier than the number 10 crochet thread for doilies, etc.) It is classed on the ball band as weight #1 Super Fine. I would say that it is like knitting with light string. I use bamboo or wooden needles as they have more grip for this thread. This thread tends to slide off metal needles. It is really different from using wool or the usual knitting fibers which are much softer. I like it because of the stitch definition and it blocks really well.
If you want to make the poncho a little bigger you can increase the size of your needles. The measurements for this poncho apply only when using the # of repeats, cotton thread and needle size stated in the pattern. Please swatch in pattern to ensure correct gauge for the yarn and needles you are using before starting to knit your poncho. Please note that the lace pattern used in this poncho is a 32 row pattern repeat. Using any other version of this lace pattern will not result in the required measurements for the finished poncho.
This pattern requires a yarn that will block well and has good ‘drape”, i.e. a natural fiber. Instructions for increasing the size of this poncho are available in the pattern.
Hope you enjoy making and wearing your poncho.
