This design was worked up for my lovely daughter, who is obsessed with all things frog right now. This design is quite easy and looks so fun when completed. The lily pad is worked from the center out in turned rows. It uses a combination of basic stitches and super bulky yarn. It works up quite quickly due to the thickness of the yarn.

This design can be worked on any weight of yarn with any needle size needed to yield fabric with the drape you desire. Simply continue to work the repeats until the work is your desired length, then proceed to the edging. Use this design to make lots of different sized pieces, from coasters to blankets!

Sizes: Shawlette (Shawl, Lap Blanket) to measure roughly 40” (50”, 60”)/102 (127, 152) cm in diameter.

Yarn: 500 (700, 1400) yards/460 (640, 1280) meters of super bulky yarn; 25 yards/meters of contrast color (optional, if working frog poms) and the remainder in main color.

Sample shown in Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, colors Cilantro (main color) and Kale (contrast color).

Needles: Size US 15/10 mm circular needles with long (40”/100 cm) cable and size US 11/8 mm double-point needles, or size needed to obtain gauge, and one - two size smaller double-point needles (optional, for the frog poms).

If you dislike double-point needles, you can substitute whatever needles you prefer for working in the round.

Gauge: 9 stitches and 14 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch (worked flat).

Gauge isn’t massively important on this pattern; the only reason I include specifications is if you want your lily pad to turn out to the exact sizes listed.

Notions: 9 stitch markers, fiber fill, small safety eyes (optional, sample uses 10 mm), scrap amounts of black yarn (optional, DK weight yarn used in the sample), tapestry needle, and a blocking mat (optional).

Techniques: Basic increases and decreases, picking up stitches, knitting in the round (optional, for frog poms), wrap and turn short rows (can substitute German short rows if desired), and Kitchener stitch (optional).
