I could really go for a vacation right now! I’m channeling some of my travel-planning-energy into dishcloth form, to remember places I’ve been and plan places I want to go someday!
The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct found near Nîmes in southern France. I’m hoping to visit this on my next trip to Europe! This aqueduct is frequently featured in textbooks because it is so well-preserved.
The techniques for this pattern are easy! You only need knit and slipped stitches to create the pattern, and only one colour of yarn is used at a time. This is a great introduction to the techniques used for “mosaic knitting”, and creates a cute and practical cloth in no time!
Yarn:
Worsted weight cotton yarn (4) in two or more contrasting colours, approximately 36m/40 yards of each colour (may vary depending on choices, such as solid or speckled water and sky options). Cotton yarn is recommended for dishcloths; but any fibre (or weight) would work for the pattern.
Gauge is not critical for this project, but will affect the finished size and yardage required.
Needles: 4.5mm (US size 7) straight knitting needles
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 9” square.
Pattern instructions: Written and charted instructions
