In J.R.R. Tolkien’s book “The Hobbit”, Bilbo’s adventure begins harmlessly enough with pleasant travel through familiar country. When the travel gets more difficult, he later wistfully remarks that “adventures are not all pony rides in May sunshine.”
The Pony Rides in May Sunshine fingerless mitts are knit from a rustic, semi-solid yarn that is just the thing to protect your hands on a long day of holding the reins.
These mitts feature a horizontal cabled cuff which is knit flat and edged on one side with slipped stitches which form a faux i-cord along the bottom of the mitt. The cable is then sewn into a loop and stitches are picked up around the top edge to work the stockinette stitch body of the mitt.
