Popple Shawl
It’s our Popple Bandana all blown up…and the ideal shawl project to transition you through the seasons! The Popple Shawl features a fun-to-work slip stitch pattern in an easily memorized eight-row repeat so that you can take it with you to knit nights and other gatherings. We love the shallow triangle shape with long tails for easy styling too!
SAMPLES SHOWN
Complete shawl: The Lamb & Kid Tod Worsted in color Cinder (MC) and Dimond Laine Birdie DK in color Shell (CC).
In progress shawl: Dimond Laine Elmer Tweed Worsted in color Thermal (MC) and Dimond Laine Birdie in colors Avocado and Basecamp -- one strand of each color held together throughout (CC).
SIZES
One size. Customizable -- you can easily make this shawl larger but keep in mind that you may need more yarn.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Approx. 80” wingspan x 20” deep, after blocking.
YARN REQUIREMENTS
Please note these are yarn estimates. The amount used will depend on yarn, your personal gauge, and any modifications you make.
MC: The Lamb & Kid Tod Worsted (65% yak, 35% cashmere; 228 yards per 100 grams); 2 skeins OR Dimond Laine Elmer Tweed Worsted (70% merino, 30% cashmere; 135 yards per 50 grams); 4 skeins.
CC: Dimond Laine Birdie DK (90% alpaca, 10% silk; 246 yards per 100 grams); 1 skein OR Dimond Laine Birdie (74% alpaca, 26% silk; 328 yards per 50 grams); 1-2 skeins. (If you choose a fingering-weight CC option, yarn is held doubled throughout. A single color requires just one skein; if you choose to marl colors, you’ll need a total of two skeins.)
OR
MC: 450 yards / 410 m of a worsted-weight yarn,
CC: 160 yards / 146 m of a DK-weight yarn or equivalent. If you are holding a fluffy fingering-weight yarn doubled, double this yardage.
NEEDLES
Needle sizes are suggested.
Gauge Needle: US 10 (6mm) 32” / 80 cm circular needle.
TOOLS
Darning needle.
GAUGE
Gauge is not critical for this project although it may affect yardage requirements; you want a finished fabric with drape and body.
Approx. 16 sts and 32 rows = 4” in ripple slip stitch pattern using Gauge Needle, blocked.
