Poppy for Cascade
This large Poppy appliqué was originally designed to be one of many attached to netting to form a cascade that would be draped over a war memorial - but could be used to decorate anything you like!
Made with weight #4 yarn and 5 & 5.5mm hooks the poppy is about 7.5” across. You could adjust the size by using a different yarn weight with corresponding hook sizes.
Total weight of yarn used was 31g. You will only need a little black yarn for the stamen and maybe a little green if you want to add the optional ‘centre’.
The poppy is worked from the centre out, initially with joined rounds. The petals are added one at a time in turned rows and then an edging added joining petals 1 & 3 and petals 2 & 4.
By adding a few stitches with your yarn needle at the end you can make your poppy more 3D - petals 1 & 3 forming an inner ‘cup’ and petals 2 & 4 an outer ‘cup’.
