Poppy Seed Shawl
Red poppies have always appealed to me! In the month of May the fields of southern Sweden will be covered by yellow colza-flowers Their color is so strong - you believe that nothing can be stronger until you see a red poppy having found its way to compete with all the yellow. It is like magic: one single flower has the strength to glow so much:))
I wanted my shawl to glow as well:))
Worked in Malabrigo Lace - in the color called “Ravelry Red” it makes my day glow! Light as a breeze it is easily draped around the neck and shoulders to give warmth and colorful beauty.
Sizes and shape The pattern gives 2 sizes: wingspan 48/59” (120/150cm). Height at spine 21/26” (54/66cm). These are the measurements when working to exact gauge. You could modify the size by working to another gauge. The shape of the shawl is triangular.
Wool I used Malabrigo Lace and needed exactly 1 skein for making the small shawl. You will need approximately 470/670yards (430/612m) of lace-weight yarn to work the shawl. If working in fingering weight you will need approximately 100/150yards (92/140m) more wool.
Needles and notions
The sample is made using a circular needle 32”/80cm, size US3/3.25mm. Choose needles to obtain gauge!
Gauge 4 x 4” (10 x10cm) in st st = 28sts and 34rows
Knitting skills Abbreviations used are: k, p, yo, k2tog, ssk, p2tog, p2togtbl, sl2(as if to k2tog)k1psso. You must be able to read and work from a chart. There are written row-by-row instructions for the pattern-repeat, but you still need to be able to follow the chart.
Construction The shawl is worked from outside in. Decreases are made in every RS row.
The pattern There are full charts for all lace involved in the pattern. There are row-by-row instructions for the lace-pattern repeat, but you need to follow the chart as well. The pattern gives all necessary stitch-counts, a schematic, useful tips. All measurements are given in both inches and cm’s
