Porcelain Hat
I’m just addicted to brioche. Looove this technic.
Two-color brioche is unique and the result is like two different hats - You can wear both sides. Two-color brioche creates a gorgeous reversible fabric.
This beanie is an average adult size version. If you want a shorter or smaller size – do fewer sections (patterned hat have 6 section, you can also knit 5 section) and use smaller needles. Or use sport weight yarn.
YARN:
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Rialto DK weight, 115 yards (105 meters)/ 50grams (1.76 ounces). 100% merinowool. (My own naturally handdyed yarn.
Green is hand dyed with red cabbage and mordated with iron; red is hand dyed with madder root).
Or use any other DK weight yarn.
NEEDLES: 16” (40cm) circular needle or DPNs (double pointed needles) in US 1 ½ /2,5mm or US 2 ½ /3mm ribbing and US 4/3,5mm pattern. I recommend US 2/2,5mm circular needles for the ribbing.
FINISHED SIZE: Normal average women’s size (beanie in the Picture):
Depth – 25,5cm (10“)
Circ - 46cm (18“) Fits head about 57cm (22“)
Measurements taken un-blocked. Hats are shown on a 22.5” / 57cm head circumference.
OTHER TOOLS: Tapestry needle; stitch marker (if needed) for marking the beginning of the round; cable needle for br4st dec.
GAUGE: 22 sts x 25 rows = 4“ 10cm in two-color brioche stitch (knitted US 1 ½ / 2,5mm needles)
SKILL LEVELS: Intermediate brioche. Two- color brioche.
Techniques used: Knitting in the round, knitting, purling, brioche decreases/increases (br4sts dec, br4sts inc, brLsl dec, brRsl dec, brkyobrk, brk1, brp1, sl1yo)
The pattern is easy to follow with clear instructions to guide you through from cast-on to finished object.
All measurements are given in cm’s as well as inches.
The Porcelain hat is both written and charted, for your convenience.
And tested.
I would like to thank my wonderful testers. You have all been very helpful and it has been a real pleasure to work with you. Without you, this pattern isn’t here …
